Eric Jackson – SUSE LLC

Recorded at SUSECON 2016 as session TUT89744

Installing your first Ceph cluster can be a challenge. In addition to understanding Ceph terminology and selecting hardware, you must decide what features to use. Each of those features, such as CephFS, Rados Gateways and iSCSI gateways, have several configurations available. Add more complex topics such as crushmap editing and cache tiering and even the veteran can be overwhelmed.

With SES4, the primary installation method is Salt. Decisions are consolidated to quickly carry out the creation of a cluster. Steps are broken into stages for simpler understanding. Additionally, OpenATTIC uses Salt, provides an informative dashboard and the equivalent management capabilities.

This session familiarizes the attendees with both the Salt and OpenATTIC installation methods for Ceph.
