James Fehlig – SUSE

Recorded at SUSECON 2016 as session TUT90009

Customers and partners are using the KVM and Xen virtualization stacks in SUSE Linux Enterprise Server to satisfy diverse use-cases. A few of the more popular ones include consolidation, high availability, cloud compute resources and big data.

This session discusses the plethora of tuning mechanisms to be considered when optimizing the implementation of your use-case. Tuning controls for virtual network and block devices, virtual CPUs, host memory resources, physical and virtual NUMA resources will be presented and analyzed, along with their impact on the system.

Tuning an implementation requires the ability to observe the system performance. The session will also include a discussion of the monitoring capabilities available in the SUSE Linux Enterprise Server virtualization management tools.
