I just found this comment and thought I would respond since it is pretty old and out-dated. Most of the problems described above are caused by SLES 9 which NOWS SBE version 1 ran on.

Version 2 has been out for several months. Version 2 solves the following issues above:

Runs on SLES 10, OES 2
Supports SAS drivers.
Includes and soon will support NSS.
Requires password to shutdown server.
NCP and Samba have been updated.

This product has lots and lots of issues. No supports for SAS drives.
No support for SATA drives.
No support for NSS
Out of the box, customization is a joke. If you choose to change the partitions, watch out, it won't boot!
you can't customize any of the installs to install to different partitions. If you do, they still install to the root partition.
This product was not thought out well, and on top of all that, it is built on SLES9, with a kinda sorta kde/gnome desktop, that you
are NOT suppose to use at all. So don't try, because it doesn't work. Did you know that anyone with access to the server can click
on the login screen and restart the server? Oooooppppppppsssss.

Try to get support on this product as well. It just does not happen.
We have tried installing right out of the box with NCP volumes.
Can't see the server as NCP.
Tried to put SAMBA on, can't see the server in a Windows environments.

This product is not ready. I don't think SP1 will make it ready, if their primary release is any indication.
