Note: Our next edition of Novell Open Audio will be recorded at BrainShare in two weeks. We hope to see you there!

Overview
Repeat offender Jason Williams is back yet again. This time he brings in Novell Distinguished Engineer Dana Henriksen, the man behind Dynamic Storage Technology (formerly “Shadow Volumes”). We also interview Dean Ricker, the primary person from Novell IS&T responsible for the technical implementation for the BrainShare Installation and Migration Depot. Also, Erin and Ted talk a lot about BrainShare.
Time: 48:32
MP3 Size:
33.2 MB

Segment Times

  1. Dynamic Storage Technology: 8:51 – 30:52
  2. BrainShare’s Installation/Migration Depot: 32:37 – 42:44
  3. Extended BrainShare Babble from Erin and Ted: 42:51 – 47:28

NOA Backstage:

  • “…and this time, he brought a lead engineer.” (Ted ducks out again, leaving Erin and Caitlin to do the heavy lifting.)
  • Ted hosting the Friday General Session at BrainShare?! What are they, crazy?
  • If Erin talks too fast in this one, we recommend Red Bull. (At least, that’s what he was all jacked up on.)
  • Erin and Ted secretly fear doing the live NOA shows at BrainShare–Caitlin’s kind of a looker, and she’s sure to upstage the two aging punkers from California.

I heard about shadow volumes back at BrainShare last year! It was a very interesting asside in IO202, and I’ve been listening for details ever since. Richard Jones had a few blog posts about it back in June. I’m in the Dynamic Storage Technology session next week! Greatly looking forward to it.

Make sure you check out Jason Williams and Kevin Smith in the Monday keynote. They will demo it there.

Wondering if you can share the link to the wiki that was mentioned in this interview. Jason was going to share some screenshots…

Thanks!
Chris

I’m loving the new stuff that is soming out of Novell, including DST. Where does it fit in,compared to Novell Storage Manager? Does one replace/complement the other? What is the future product path for NSM?

Cheers.
