General Information
This chapter provides a description of the new features or enhancements to various components in NetWare® 6 Support Pack 1. A description of the resolution to known issues is located in the individual component chapters of this book.
NOTE: For information about additional issues discovered after the support pack release, see the NetWare 6 Support Pack 1 Readme Addendum on the Novell Support Knowledgebase web site.
DNS/DHCP Changes
- DNS Server
Corrected negative chaching issue.
Added strict referral checking to correct an issue with undesirable internet sites inserting themselves into DNS lists.
- DHCP Server
Enhanced "switchednet" (VLAN support).

Documentation Changes
- Online help has been updated in several modules to reflect software changes
- Online documentation has been updated to reflect software changes
NOTE: No changes have been made to the printed NetWare 6 Overview and Installation Guide or the NetWare 6 Documentation CD.
iFolder Changes
- iFolder applet improvements
Added Explorer-like double-pane view of files/folders on server
Added ability to create a new user account
Added ability to handle large directories
- Improved proxy support in the iFolder client and applet
- Corrected an admin console problem after timeout.
Internationalization Changes
- Improved support for extended single-byte and double-byte characters for filenames, folder names, and NDS objects.
iPrint/NDPS Changes
- Administrators can add their own custom icons in the iPrint Map Designer Tool.
- Administrators now have the ability to shut down and start up a printer within NetWare Remote Manager.
- NetWare Remote Manager now has a reporting mechanism for iPrint. Administrator can setup reports on number of jobs printed, and various transactions, including down time.
NetWare Remote Manager Changes
- NetWare 6 SP1 can be installed remotely, from a web browser via the console screen applet in NetWare Remote Manager -- Use the Console Screens option and run NWConfig in the applet window.
- Longer-term trends for many server health statistics are now tracked and can be graphed -- Follow the link "Health Statistic Trend Graphs" on the main Server Health page.
- For any NetWare volume, disk space usage per user can be viewed -- Use the "Disk Space Usage" button on the Volume Info page.
- A new Security Report for the server, automatic e-mailing of the abend.log file, and managing basic Trustee Information on a file or directory.
NetWare WebAccess Changes
NetWare Web Search Changes
- The hosted "Search Site" feature is now called "Virtual Search Server"
- Support for an unlimited number of Virtual Search Servers
- Better support for PDF 1.4
Network Management Changes
- Added functionality for an NSSWITCH.CONF file to control how NLMs communicate with the Network to resolve names.
Novell Advanced Audit Service (NAAS) Changes
- New events added for eDirectory for Intrusion Detection, Change ACL, Disable Login and Enable Login
- Event specific data available now for eDirectory, NSS and NetWare File System events
Novell Cluster Services Changes
- Improved integration with NSS admin tools - better storage management
- Auto cluster-enable when creating a shared pool via new panel on NSS Console One snap-in with support for auto-adding the CIFS, AFP, and NCP advertising commands to the cluster volume resource scripts
- Auto update cluster volume resource scripts when renaming or deleting pools or volumes
- Removed the need for ADMIN_SERVER volume to manage storage
- Various improvements in Cluster Volume Broker, refreshing, and the ability to manage cluster volumes by right clicking on virtual servers to get the NSS media tab.
- Ability to create DFS junctions on cluster volumes, plus better integration of Clustering, DFS and CIFS (i.e. sharing virtual server setup information via NDS).
- Removed 8 partition per device limit (for the SBD partition)
- Trustbar module now backs up trustees at root of volume

- An improved File Browser utility that is part of the Server GUI
- Upgraded version of the accelerated graphics drivers which supports newer video graphics adapters
Novell Modular Authentication Service (NMAS) Changes
- Corrected a problem logging in to large NDS trees with Native File Access Pack protocols such as CIFS and AFP
Novell Native File Access for Macintosh (AFP) Changes
Novell Native File Access for Windows (CIFS) Changes
- Master Browser Support. When used in Network Neighborhood on Windows allows additional functionality, i.e. the ability to see the server without an IP address even when the CIFS server is the only one available in a particular subnet.
- DFS (Junctions) Support. File lookup through vLDB to find actual location that is not necessarily on CIFS server.
- Import on Demand. LDAP authentication if LDAP is installed.
Novell NetStorage Changes
- Improved the iFolder passphrase creation window.
- Support for handheld devices running Windows CE.
- HTML interface supports mouse right click on file and directory names.
- Menu items which are not applicable in the current reference are grayed out/disabled.
- If user tries to copy over an existing file or directory user will be prompted for permission to do overwrite.

- Integration of volume / pool management and clustering
Scripting Changes
- Perl 5.6 -- This replaces the earlier Perl 5.003.
- Improved the NSN console command parser.
- Web Based Monitoring Utility (webcon.nlm): A web-based utility available through NetWare Remote Manager to view TCPIP information, that was previously available only through the TCPCON utility.
Storage Management Services (Backup and Restore) Changes
- Supports back up of open files on NSS volumes.
- Corrected errors during backup and restore of sparse files.
- Corrected errors during backup of a volume which was selected using the Include/Exclude option from an original list of volumes.
TCP/IP Changes
- NIC teaming support: Configuration support in INETCFG for third party vendor solutions for Load Balancing and Fault Tolerance at the NIC level.
