Client Name:
Bracknell Forest Borough Council

Solution Description (business challenge, solution and results):

Secure Remote Access
Bracknell Forest Borough Council prides itself as a Borough of Innovation in the high-tech heart of Britain. Having provided a unified access point (Novell Portal) to its citizens, Bracknell Forest wanted to extend its use of the portal to give secure remote access to council employees.

With over 3000 employees, the council approached ANS who proposed upgrading all the existing Novell technology infrastructure, to provide conformity for both internal and external users and developed a new look and feel to accompany this.

By using ANS’s specific skills, Bracknell Forest was able to provide a unified, rich and secure remote access solution to council systems. More staff can now work remotely, saving valuable money on resources and allowing for the individual freedom to choose their working location.

“Having led the way in providing a portal for our citizens, we were delighted with the work carried out by ANS in helping us develop solutions to support our flexible working initiatives and provide remote access for our employees.”

QualIT bvba

Design, implementation and management of directory-based solutions like identity management, desktop management and high availability solutions are QualITs main activities.

Client Name:
VDAB

Client Location:
Keizerslaan 11, 1000 Brussel, Belgium

Solution Description (business challenge, solution and results):
VDAB (Flemish Department of Employment Services and Professional Training) has more than 200 offices spread over the Flemish region. More than the half of these sites consists of 10 or less users. In these offices the cost of a network with server (hardware cost, software and hardware maintenance) per user is pretty high.

To reduce this cost QualIT designed an “Offices without server” concept. In this solution, the small sites consist of PCs and printers only which are connected with a central fault tolerant infrastructure. The Novell cluster environment offers ZenWorks, iFolder and NetStorage services. Together with some custom made applications the complete environment offers the users the same comfort as in traditional Offices with a Server. Users don’t see the difference when they logon to the network. Applications and policies are delivered to the desktop with Zenworks Desktop Management Services in Xtier mode. Files are accessed using iFolder (personal files) and NetStorage combined with WebDrive (shared files). Printing is achieved with Qprint, a self developed directory enabled printing system, which omits spooling of print jobs.

By implementing the QualITs Offices with Server solution VDAB saves more than 500.000 € each year.

Client Name:
Huddersfield Technical College

Client Location:
Huddersfield, UK.

Solution Description (business challenge, solution and results):
When Huddersfield Technical College wanted to make better use of their resources, they started looking for a solution. That would leverage the power of identity to make their life easier.

Huddersfield decided to implement Salford eNrol® to automate the enrolment process for the 2004 intake of students. Salford Software began the engagement with the team at Huddersfield early in 2004. Working in partnership with the local IT team, eNrol ® was implemented over a period of several weeks to connect all systems, paying particular attention to the work flow, naming conventions and data validation rules at each step of the process.

The project went live in July of 2004, and has been a great success. It has freed up several members of the IT team who can now be deployed elsewhere. Enrolment is no longer the panic it used to be, with the trickle of account for weeks. A Student has access to the network and facilities from the day they eNrol and provide details of payment, this also means that if a student is not paying their fees, then no college resource is provided to them.

Client Name:
Suffolk County Council

Solution Description (business challenge, solution and results):
Suffolk County Council needed to manage user identities on an ever growing number of Windows NT Domain and Active Directory servers running applications and Exchange 5.5/2000. Using the native tools was proving time consuming and costly in manpower. There was also an identified need to allow for end user self-provisioning to reduce IT admin involvement in managing such items as personal details, phone numbers, etc. Telamon implemented a pilot project using Novell eDirectory and Novell DirXML 1.1 to provide a meta-directory where user self-provisioning and identity synchronization across a number of systems could take place. The pilot was successful and the solution adopted. This has now grown to incorporate the HR systems and new telephone systems to provide self-provisioning across a wide number of systems, thus enabling a true Zero Day Start and Zero Day Finish environment. The next phase of the project will be to incorporate the door entry system and implement secure identity management for remote users.
