1.0 Understanding DNS and DHCP Services

Novell DNS/DHCP Services in Open Enterprise Server (OES) 2 Linux integrates the Domain Name System (DNS) and Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) services into eDirectory. Integrating these services into eDirectory provides centralized administration and enterprise-wide management of DNS and DHCP services.

DNS and DHCP services can be managed by either iManager, which is a Web-based management console, or you can use the Java Management Console.

NOTE:A Novell DNS server can only be managed by using the iManager or Java management Console utility. The DNS YaST plug-in does not support managing a Novell DNS server.

iManager provides a Web interface to manage the objects created to support DNS and DHCP and runs in a browser window. It does not require a Novell Client or any installed component as a prerequisite. It shares a common interface with other utilities that are based on the iManager framework, and is thus tightly integrated with OES 2 Linux. iManager Plugin is supported on Internet Explorer 6, Internet Explorer 7, and Firefox.
