Novell Licensing Programs

Consumer and Citizen License Pricing
Novell is pleased to announce the introduction of two new classes of the user license:
  • Business-to-Consumer (B-C)
  • Government-to-Citizen (G-C)

Using the same user license model, these new license classifications offer a reduced price for licenses purchased exclusively for MLA or CLA customer's consumers or citizens.

qualification

You can purchase B-C and G-C licenses if you are either a Novell Corporate License Agreement (CLA) or Master License Agreement (MLA) customer.

Prior to purchasing these licenses, you sign an addendum (see below) to your contract, agreeing to the license definition and deployment requirements of the B-C and G-C licenses. After submitting this addendum, you can purchase B-C or G-C licenses according to the definition and restrictions set forth in the addendum.

deployment

The B-C and G-C licenses are not intended to be used by your employees, suppliers, and for IT outsourcing. Instead, these licenses should be purchased to allow your consumers to access items such as account information or other personal data. Examples of Novell customers who would benefit from this pricing structure include a bank that purchases licenses for all its members to access personal financial data, a Government Agency who purchases software licenses for its citizens to access personal records, or an insurance agency who allows its customers to access individual account information.

Novell recommends that our customers participating in the Consumer/Citizen licensing model take appropriate measures to separate and identify users that fall under the Consumer/Citizen pricing program, as opposed to standard employee pricing. An Audit Methods document provides you with several suggestions for ensuring proper deployment of consumer licenses.

reseller participation
MLA and CLA resellers can only sell B-C or G-C licenses to customers after Novell has accepted (executed) the addendum (see qualification above). Resellers verify that Novell has accepted the addendum by validating the customer information using the Novell Contract Lookup Tool.
product availability and pricing information

B-C and G-C licenses are listed within the appropriate CLA and MLA Product Availability and Price List, which lists the suggested retail price appropriate to the license type by product.

The suggested retail price of B-C licenses is set at 25% of the standard license price. G-C suggested retail prices are set at 10% of the standard license price. For example, if a product can normally be purchased for $40 (suggested retail price), the suggested B-C price would be $10, and the suggested G-C price would be $4. The customer's MLA or CLA Membership Level discount would then be taken off the $10 and $4 price respectively. Any CLA or MLA channel partner can sell these licenses to approved customers.
