Customer Audits

Why We Audit

Customer Education: Audits offer an opportunity to clarify Program and Licensing components with Customers. Novell encourages you to be familiar with the terms and conditions of your Licensing Agreement and its respective Program Guide. Audits also teach Customers how to obtain their own usage counts when performing Self-Audits.

Contract Changes: To ensure that Customers who are establishing or terminating their contract or transferring licenses are completed correctly and with the proper documentation and with accurate license counts.

Master Media: Novell Licensing Programs provide Customers with Media, which you should take reasonable steps to protect and to keep secure, that has no watchdog and thereby allows unlimited duplication of the software. In exchange for this benefit, Novell requests Customers to submit a Self-Audit each year and participate in occasional Formal Audits.

Who We Audit

All customers with Novell Licensing Agreements (excluding SLA's) are audit candidates. As part of Novell's standard business practices, Novell routinely audits Customers, and you should not assume that you are under suspicion if identified for an audit. These audits may be conducted on-site or remotely. License ownership and usage are determined through collaboration between the Auditor(s) and the Customer.

Audit Scope

Through the scope of the audit, the Auditor will work with the Customer to accomplish the following:

  • Understand Customer's network and business environment
  • Review Customer's purchase history with Novell, in which any identified issues will be resolved
  • Determine usage of Novell products installed using the Counting Instructions as a guide
  • Clarify Licensing Agreement (including End User License Agreement - EULA) terms and conditions

How to Request an Audit

Many Customers find the Audit to be a valuable exercise in assisting with their asset management, in better understanding their responsibilities specified in their Licensing Agreements, and in bringing awareness to methods of quantifying product usage.
