Novell, Inc., a leading supplier of Net services software, today announced the public beta availability of wireless access to Novell GroupWise&174 via AT&T PocketNet service for business customers. GroupWise, Novell's premier knowledge platform and a key component in the new DENIM[SM] Net Portal Services strategy, will now deliver a wide array of Net services software, including messaging, calendaring and workflow, through AT&T PocketNet service giving GroupWise business customers easy access to relevant information anytime and anywhere. GroupWise wireless access will be demonstrated this week at Novell's BrainShare user conference.

"By working with AT&T to deliver wireless access to GroupWise, Novell is offering businesses two key benefits," said Dave Shirk, Novell senior vice president of product management. "First, we're simplifying the complexities of the Net by providing customers with easy access to e-mail, calendaring and address book information on their wireless phones regardless of their location. Second, we're helping accelerate eBusiness by giving customers immediate access to key people and valuable information, enabling them to respond to the needs of their customers at Internet speed."

"Together, AT&T and Novell will provide businesses secure access to corporate data whether e-mail messages, calendar appointments or address book through the AT&T wireless IP network," said Tom Trinneer, vice president of Data Product Development for AT&T Wireless Services. "We are excited to see innovative companies like Novell wirelessly enabling their products to meet the growing demand for mobile data access through products like AT&T PocketNet service."

Key to this new offering is the GroupWise Web client, WebAccess. Because it is based solely on Internet standards, WebAccess helps to extend the functionality of GroupWise across all types of networks and all leading operating systems, as well as a range of mobile devices, such as the AT&T PocketNet service. After users log in to GroupWise WebAccess through a wireless device, they can:

  • List and open all item types (messages, appointments, tasks, and notes)
  • Change folders
  • Send, reply to, forward and delete all item types
  • Accept, decline, and delegate appointments, tasks, and notes
  • Mark tasks completed
  • Search address books
  • Search for documents and view property information about the documents

"In the courtroom, having access to the right information at a moment's notice can be the difference between winning or losing, and we rely on GroupWise to make that difference," said Paul Kiesel, a partner with Kiesel, Boucher and Larson, LLP, a law firm based in Beverly Hills, Calif. "Now, with the addition of wireless access, it will be even easier to review and manage the messages, tasks and contact information we store in the GroupWise system making us more competitive when it matters most."
