Novell's Net Services Software Simplifies and Secures eBusiness for ON Semiconductor
Benefits Include Improved Workforce Productivity, Business Processes and Network Management Costs
Novell, Inc., the leading provider of Net services software, today announced that ON Semiconductor, one of the world's largest suppliers of analog, logic and discrete semiconductors for data and power management, has standardized on Novell's Net services software, which includes Novell NDS eDirectory, BorderManager, Single Sign-on and ZenWorks. Leveraging Novell's proven Net services software, ON Semiconductor is creating a single unified network that allows secure access to its full range of enterprise applications by employees, customers and suppliers. This will enable ON Semiconductor to improve workforce productivity and business processes, and reduce network management costs.
"Novell's eDirectory is a key component of our IT architecture. By making people the center of our network rather than individual applications and systems, we hope to improve our efficienc both internally and externally. This is key for when we acquire new businesses, where we expect to connect new employees to our internal networked resources more quickly, so they can be productive immediately," said Bill Ender, Director of Workforce Productivity for ON's Global Information Systems organization. "From the beginning, we envisioned our new Enterprise Directory Service as a full-service directory capable of maintaining user profiles and application and system access information, as well as being a focal point for tracking corporate assets. Novell's eDirectory suite was the only product with the breadth and depth of services that could help us achieve our goals."
eDirectory Provides Foundation for eBusiness
Novell's flagship product, eDirectory, is the core of Novell's Net services software, providing the foundation for eBusiness initiatives for companies of all sizes. eDirectory is a full-service, cross-platform directory service that allows clients to capture identity information and personalize interaction with individual partners, customers and vendors. ON Semiconductor is leveraging eDirectory for centralized management of information across multiple networks, applications and operating systems, eliminating the burden and expense of administering user accounts on multiple systems.
"ON Semiconductor has a clear vision of all the things they can accomplish through a one Net environment. Their determination to recast their business and deliver new value to customers in the one Net economy reflects their understanding of the new business models required as companies move to eBusiness," said Steve Adams, senior vice president of world wide marketing at Novell. "Novell Net services software is giving them the power to change their old ways of doing business to respond to new customer requirements and business challenges."
Centralized Management and Security
eDirectory combined with Novell's ZENworks for Desktops and ZENworks for Servers enables ON Semiconductor to maintain control over corporate computing assets, a high priority for the company. Utilizing these services, ON Semiconductor is now able to track employee PCs, pagers, cell phones and other assets that are otherwise difficult to account for in big companies.
"eDirectory empowers us to streamline our internal accounting processes, allowing us to correctly allocate costs to internal departments for supplier-provided services," according to David Thornewill von Essen, Chief of Staff and Controller for ON Global Information Systems. "For example, we can leverage eDirectory to match employee assets and their related costs."
Novell's security services will play an important role in ON Semiconductor's eBusiness efforts by providing a robust infrastructure for user identification, authentication, and authorization services. The security features inherent in eDirectory coupled with Novell's BorderManager software will provide control over who has access to what information-when and how. Utilizing these services, ON Semiconductor is able to provide personalized services that create unique Web experiences and improve customer relationships.
