Novell Inc., the leading provider of Net services software, today announced an upgrade of the Novell® Internet Caching System (ICS), giving Web managers new power to accelerate their media rich Web sites, secure site access, improve management of high-volume sites, filter Web content, and guarantee site up-time. The new features of Novell ICS 1.3 which include guaranteed connection capabilities and media delivery simplify, secure, and accelerate companies' move into eBusiness. With Novell ICS, organizations will dramatically improve the speed and efficiency of delivering Net content to employees, business partners and customers, gaining competitive advantage in the eBusiness world.

"In today's eBusiness market, you need more than a caching system that provides fast Internet content. Companies demand a caching technology that manages content efficiently and offers the security and dependability needed to conduct business via the Web," said Simon Khalaf, vice president and general manager, Net Content business unit, Novell Inc. "Novell ICS is the only caching technology on the market that can effectively support the large demand placed on today's new media-rich content providers."

WebMiles, a Utah-based customer loyalty company featuring unrestricted free travel rewards, uses the Novell Internet Caching System to maintain high network performance and reduce Internet bandwidth costs. "Since our customers rely on our site to shop at partner sites, access their account activity and participate in frequent promotions and contests, the Web experience we provide for them is crucial to our success," said WebMiles Chief Information Officer Brian Holman. "The Quantex WebXL, based on the Novell Internet Caching System, has substantially increased our network performance, enabling us to provide our customers with a faster and more secure Web experience, and our partners with customer data (on an aggregate level) to gain a better understanding of consumer preferences and behavior."

Novell's Internet Caching System 1.3 Gives eBusinesses a Competitive Advantage:

  • Supports user authentication through standard technologies, allowing administrators to easily filter cached content by user, bandwidth or content type
  • Provides support for media delivery via HTTP, allowing for accelerated delivery of cached media
  • Improves traffic report management - ICS 1.3 can automatically "push"traffic reporting logs to any location, thus help Web hosts better manage extremely high volumes of traffic flowing through their caching solutions
  • Provides persistent server connection by keeping connections from the cache to the origin Web server intact
  • Enables Web clients to be blocked or allowed, giving Web hosts complete control over who is permitted to access cached content
