Novell, Inc. today announced the appointment of Mark Hardardt as vice president and global sales leader. Most recently vice president for sales and channel development for Elron Software*, a leading Internet filtering software solution, Hardardt brings over 20 years of sales and business development experience to the position. Hardardt will be responsible for ensuring that Novell's sales organization around the globe has the skills, tools, and culture to help customers solve challenges around secure identity management, Web application development, and cross-platform services. Having worked in similar positions to develop sales strategy and go-to-market models at Lotus/IBM for Notes* and cc:Mail*, Hardardt brings highly relevant hands-on experience to help Novell achieve new levels of growth.
Hardardt will develop and execute Novell's global sales strategy, which encompasses Novell's five geographic territories, consulting service lines, and vertical industry groups. He will help drive Novell's efforts to develop and implement sales programs globally, as well as recruit for and enhance a world-class sales team. In addition, Hardardt will develop and implement new strategies and methodologies for delivering and selling value-added solutions to Novell's customers.
"We're excited to have Mark Hardardt join the senior management team," said Chris Stone, vice chairman, office of the CEO of Novell, to whom Hardardt will report. "To be strategic to our customers, we need to provide web-based application development, secure identity management, and cross-platform networking solutions more quickly and cost effectively than any one else in the industry. Mark will help us do this. His experience at leading sales initiatives globally at companies like Lotus and IBM is right on target for us. He's helped customers move up the IT food chain before, and now he can use those skills to help Novell's clients better leverage their technology investments to solve their complex business problems.
Prior to Elron Software, Hardardt, 47, oversaw a tripling of revenues as vice president of worldwide sales at Openpages, Inc.*, where he developed a sales strategy for penetration of identified target markets. Earlier, during his more than 12-year tenure at Lotus Development Company and IBM, he held a number of management positions, including vice president for North American sales, global sales& strategy and communications product sales, where he built, recruited for, and managed sales organizations for both new and existing offerings.
