Customers and Partners Embrace Cross-Platform Data Center Management Solutions from Novell
Automated management for physical and virtual machines reduces cost and complexity
Novell's data center management solutions are gaining increasing traction with customers and partners. With support for Linux*, Windows* and UNIX* platforms, and Microsoft*, Xen* and VMware* virtual environments, Novell's data center management offerings have given partners CompuCom, Fujitsu Siemens Computers, Novacoast and QLogic new tools to help their customers cost effectively manage their IT environments. Children's Hospital Central California is tapping Novell's new data center management solutions to save money and increase data center efficiency. These solutions deliver automated, policy-based management for physical and virtual data center environments, giving customers the tools they need to manage the complexity of their IT infrastructure.
Organizations are looking to adopt virtualization technologies to lower hardware costs, but virtualization introduces new management challenges. Novell's data center management solutions, which include Novell® ZENworks® Orchestrator, Novell ZENworks Virtual Machine Management and Novell ZENworks HPC Management, effectively address this challenge. Children's Hospital Central California, one of the 10 largest pediatric hospitals in the country, faced increasing costs managing its data center – cooling, power and space were all critical factors that needed to be brought under control. The hospital has initiated a server consolidation project that leverages virtualization to bring costs in line and reduce server sprawl. Working with Novell partner Novacoast, the hospital has completed its pilot of Novell ZENworks Orchestrator and plans to move forward in production deployment soon.
“Novell's ZENworks Orchestrator will help us save money on hardware and reduce the time our IT administrators spend managing our data center,” said Joseph Egan, senior network engineer at Children's Hospital Central California. “The ability to manage multi-vendor offerings, including Xen, through a single console will help simplify the management of our data center and allow us to cost-effectively increase our use of virtualization technologies.”
“Our customers need solutions that simplify their data center management, while increasing the flexibility of their IT infrastructure,” said Paul Anderson, president and CEO of Novacoast. “With dynamic provisioning of workloads for increased system utilization, simplified management for virtual machines, and disaster recovery for business continuity, ZENworks Orchestrator is an essential tool that enables customers to match their IT resources with their business needs and get the most out of their technology investments.”
Other Novell partners see Novell data center management solutions helping them address their customers problems.
“CompuCom has a broad depth of expertise in the virtualization market and is happy to see Novell deliver new cross-platform management solutions designed to accelerate the adoption of virtualization and improve manageability,” said Link Simpson, vice president of Software Alliances and Solutions at CompuCom. “CompuCom is always on the lookout for innovative new technologies that will appeal to a broad base of clients and saw the opportunity to join the Novell ZENworks Orchestrate pilot program as a chance to expand our expertise in the space and deliver innovative, leading-edge solutions to clients.”
“Our customer base is actively exploring virtualization, both to add power to their networks and to optimize the hardware they have,” said Bernd Kosch, vice president of Alliances at Fujitsu Siemens Computers. “Fujitsu Siemens Computers' strategy for Dynamic Data Centers, where virtualization and automation technologies open up new possibilities for adaptive computing, demands the type of data center management solution Novell is delivering. This offering supports our goal of providing enterprises with stress-free IT operations, to increase reliability and improve application availability at dramatically lowered costs.”
“QLogic believes Novell ZENworks Orchestrator will further drive the adoption of server virtualization in the data center by offering key virtual machine management capabilities that simplify the overall administration of virtual environments,” said Amit Vashi, senior director of marketing for Qlogic
Computer Systems Group. “Novell's solution will offer our joint customers the flexibility and control to automatically enforce policies, as well as monitor, maintain and respond to changes in the data center.”
Joe Wagner, Novell general manager for Systems and Resource Management, said, “Virtualization continues to evolve with new options, like Xen within SUSE Linux Enterprise, being introduced to help customers improve data center operations. To get the most out of these new forms of virtualization, customers need sophisticated tools that consolidates the management of virtualized machines regardless of their underlying platforms and systems. Novell ZENworks Orchestrator, in concert with our other data center management solutions, give customers the powerful tools they need to confidently employ virtualization and simplify the management of their complex data centers, all at a cost they can afford.”
