- Novell ZENworks for Handhelds 5 provides increased handheld security, lower management costs and higher end-user productivity
- ZENworks for Handhelds automates management of Palm, Windows CE and Pocket PC devices
- Cross-platform ZENworks manages servers, desktops, laptops and handhelds as one Net
PROVO, Utah - Sept. 18, 2002 - Novell is bringing down the high cost of owning Palm*, Windows* CE and Pocket PC* devices while ratcheting up security to keep the data that resides on them out of the wrong hands. Novell today shipped Novell® ZENworks® for Handhelds 5, the latest addition to the ZENworks solution that automates key network management tasks to save customers money and boost productivity. ZENworks for Handhelds protects valuable data with centralized password and file management policies while reducing the total cost of owning handhelds, a cost that can approach five to 10 times the price paid for the devices themselves.
"In many organizations, handheld devices are becoming essential to supporting critical business functions," said Brad Anderson, vice president of Novell's ZENworks Management Services Group. "But as the number of handhelds and their role in the organization increase, so do management costs and security risks. To reduce the support demands placed on IT, ensure the safety of handheld data and ease the burden of end-users who are troubleshooting their own devices, ZENworks for Handhelds manages handheld devices just as ZENworks also manages servers, desktops and laptop computers as one Net. So for current users of ZENworks for Desktops, it is simple to seamlessly integrate ZENworks for Handhelds to manage and secure handheld devices."
According to Adam Osterholt, network manager for The Children's Medical Center of Dayton (Ohio), ZENworks provides business benefits that translate into more-satisfied customers. "ZENworks for Handhelds keeps our physicians, residents and administrators connected to vital clinical resources, empowering them to make better decisions and improving overall patient care," Osterholt said. "Our IT personnel can now easily manage
handheld usage without ever leaving their desks, and we have drastically reduced the administrative and support demands previously imposed by these devices. Both cost effective and a boost to productivity, ZENworks for Handhelds has been a natural fit."
ZENworks for Handhelds, part of the cross-platform ZENworks management solution, makes mobile business easier by standardizing, deploying and managing software and device configuration across the entire organization. ZENworks for Handhelds manages application distribution, enhances security, standardizes configurations and maintains up-to-date inventory information on handheld devices, while the ZENworks solution gives customers the ability to automate and centralize the management of all computing resources, including servers, desktops, laptops and handhelds.
In a recent Giga Information Group report ("Market Overview: Synchronization and Management Solutions for Mobile Platforms," Aug. 23, 2002), Giga director Ken Smiley said, "Handheld management solutions need to be cross-platform, provide security and be able to integrate with existing desktop management tools to achieve greater economies of scale. Implementing a managed mobile solution has the prospect of saving a significant amount of support-related cost and software distribution costs."
