Financial Service Bureau COCC Reduces Costs, Increases Security with Novell
WALTHAM, Mass. August 31, 2004 To provide the best service to 125 community banks and credit union customers, COCC chose Novell's SUSE Linux Enterprise Server and Novell exteNd.
COCC provides the technology expertise to help community-based financial organizations run their businesses and compete with national banks, servicing 5,998 workstations, and 531 ATMs on-line in real time. Although COCC evaluated Red Hat, Novell's worldwide support infrastructure made SUSE Linux Enterprise Server the more comprehensive choice.
"We needed a Linux solution with a billion-dollar company behind it. " said Brent Biernat, COCC's Managing Officer of Network Services. "Also, SUSE Linux Enterprise Server is more cutting edge than Red Hat, giving us more for our money right out of the box."
COCC moved several of its mission-critical applications from Microsoft Windows to Linux to improve security and reduce administration time. Using Novell exteNd, COCC created customized portal solutions for its customers, providing personalized access to the resources they need, based on user identity, and eliminating high consulting costs. As a result, COCC has reduced its hardware costs and its overall administration time by more than 40%.
"Our customers depend on us to be their technology experts," said Biernat. "We get the same performance on our SUSE Linux Enterprise Servers as with our former UNIX system running on high-end hardware. Yet, this move didnt' require us to sacrifice performance or reliability, allowing us to provide more cost-effective solutions for our customers. Novell has made all the difference by moving Linux from an interesting trend to a viable enterprise solution."
