Abstract: This download (xnfs8d.zip) contains an updated XNFS.NLM to correct security vulnerabilities in NetWare NFS related services. It also fixes a possible abend triggered by certain lock requests. Older fixes (including previous security fixes) which were present in xnfs8c.zip are also included.

Since NFS is loaded on all default NetWare 6.5 systems, it is recommended that this update be placed on all NetWare systems. However, if NFS (aka Native File Access for Unix) is not needed, it is also possible to avoid this vulnerability by remarking out NFSSTART.NCF from AUTOEXEC.NCF and rebooting.

Abstract: This download contains an updated portmapper (PKERNEL.NLM) to correct a security vulnerability in the RPC function known as CALLIT. PKERNEL is loaded on all default NetWare 6.5 systems, as it is used as part of the Native File Access methods. Therefore, it is recommended that this update be placed on all NetWare systems. However, if NFS (aka Native File Access for Unix) is not needed, it is also possible to avoid this vulnerability by remarking out NFSSTART.NCF from AUTOEXEC.NCF and rebooting. Also contained is an updated NFS Server (XNFS.NLM) for NetWare 6.5 SP8 which corrects an error in permissions evaluation during a move (mv) operation from an NFS client.

NOTE that beginning with this update, the naming convention for NFS Gateway patch downloads is changing. Previously the naming convention was: NFSGY[NetWare OS Version][alpha character which increments with each patch release].EXE The last patch with the old naming convention was NFSGY65D.EXE. The new naming convention is: NFSGY[NetWare OS Version][OS Support Pack major Number][alpha character to match that of an OS Support Pack Revision or NSS patch][optional additional character if NFSGY was revised again, independently of any support pack or NSS patch].

NFS Gateway for NW60 file corruption fix

Abstract: The enclosed update corrects a file corruption problem encountered when writing files through NFS Gateway to a remote NFS Server (usually Unix or Linux), while using NFS protocol 2. This download is only for NFS Gateway for NetWare 6.0. In order to use this update, NFS Gateway must already be updated to Support Pack 1. NetWare 6.0 must already be updated to Support Pack 5. The ONLY change between NFSGY60B.EXE and NFSGY60C.exe is that C provides an additional, alternate copy of NFSGY.NLM that can be used with NSS update NW6NSS5B.EXE or NW6NSS5C.EXE. The code in each NLM is the same other than the header files used in compiling the NLMs. Due to other NFS Gateway write problems that can occur, it is also recommended to use updates PKER151W.EXE and TCP610JB.EXE (or newer). This download was rebuilt on June 23, 2005, to change its status from Beta to Full Release, and to make minor updates to this readme. Only the readme was changed.

FTPSERV.NLM Abend and Security fixes

Abstract: FTPSERV.NLM v10.31 in this download supersedes FTPSERV.NLM in NetWare 4 Support Pack 9, NetWare 5.0 Support Pack 6, and FTPSERVK.EXE. It was only officially tested on NetWare 4.2, because NetWare 4.11 and 5.0 were discontinued at the time this patch was made. Use of this file requires UNIX Print Services 2.3x (2.31 comes with NW 4.2), NFS Services 2.3, or NFS Services 2.4. This download was rebuilt on June 23, 2005, to change the status from beta to full release. Only this readme was altered.
