Overview
Identity Manager Driver 1.5 for Schools Interoperability Framework (SIF) is a component of the Identity Manager Integration Module for Education. This driver offers schools a way to easily extend resources to students, staff and faculty. (SIF is a specification that enables seamless data sharing between applications for kindergarten through grade 12 [K–12] schools.)
Identity Manager Driver for SIF enables you to integrate information about students, faculty and staff in SIF-enabled applications with information in Novell® eDirectory and other Novell applications. For example, when you create, modify, or delete a student account in a Student Information System (SIS), this driver seamlessly and automatically updates eDirectory.
By helping to eliminate redundant data entry across multiple applications, Identity Manager Driver for SIF reduces network management and support costs. Furthermore, because Identity Manager Driver for SIF provides students, faculty and staff with access to real-time information, this driver offers across-the-board improvements in user efficiency and productivity.
Based on customized rules, Identity Manager Driver for SIF also automatically provides users with the following resources:
- Network account
- Home directory with file space
- Access to applications and information
- Integration with other Novell applications–such as ZENworks®, Novell GroupWise® and Novell BorderManager®
Using Identity Manager Driver for SIF, directory-enabled applications–such as BorderManager, GroupWise and ZENworks–can easily integrate into a SIF system. Identity Manager Driver for SIF integrates these applications with SIF-enabled systems, extending these systems to provide valuable additional services. For example, using this driver to SIF-enable ZENworks for Desktops, these systems can automatically distribute, update, configure and troubleshoot a personalized set of applications for each user.
Identity Manager Driver for SIF can also extend the value of Identity Manager-based provisioning systems. For example, if these systems are using Identity Manager Driver for PeopleSoft to synchronize user information across applications, Identity Manager Driver for SIF can extend this synchronizing capability to SIF-enabled applications. Specifically, Identity Manager Driver for SIF can take user information from PeopleSoft Human Resource Management applications and synchronize this information to SIF-enabled applications.

Hardware Considerations
Each Identity Manager Driver for SIF agent uses five to 10 percent of a server's memory and Central Processing Unit (CPU). Therefore, a dedicated Identity Manager system running on a NetWare server with a 1GHz CPU and 1GB memory can support 12 to 15 copies of the agent.
