Built for Speed and Power - The PowerEdge 4600 processor technology, the newest Intel® Xeon™ processor family, provides features such as NetBurst™ micro-architecture with 400MHz system bus, 512KB L2 cache, core speeds beyond 3.0 GHz, and the new Streaming SIMD Extensions 2 (SSE2) instruction set, which extends MMXTM and SSE technology with the addition of 144 new instructions. With so much frequency headroom and processing power, the PowerEdge 4600 server is best suited for memory intensive and bandwidth "hungry" applications like data mining and recovery, financial forecasting, research, security, and streaming media.

Optimized for Performance - The PowerEdge 4600 chipset, the new ServerWorks GC-HE, accommodates up to twelve registered DDR (double data rate) 200 (PC1600) DIMMs with capacities of 128 MB through 1GB with a 4-way interleaved memory architecture. The design also includes a 128-bit ECC algorithm that enhances system reliability by correcting quad-bit errors and detecting eight-bit errors. The chipset supports "chipkill" technology that helps maintain system data integrity, even in the event of the failure of a DRAM chip within the memory array. Each dual channel PCI-X controller has its own dedicated 1.6 GB/s full duplex connection to the North Bridge to accommodate the peak traffic generated by the PCI-X buses it controls.

Extreme Expandability - The PowerEdge 4600 can accommodate 10 hard drives for up to 730GB internal storage capacity, offers 7 PCI slots (six PCI-X) and 12GB of memory. Dual embedded Ethernet controllers (one is Gigabit) and two embedded SCSI controllers provide additional headroom since the feature is built right into the server.
