product details

There are two versions of this product: HDU and eControl HD. The major differences between the two products are that HDU runs on a Windows workstation and requires regular NDS and GroupWise rights to be assigned to the users whereas eControl HD is accessed through a browser and the users require NO RIGHTS to NDS. With eControl HD, all rights are managed through our eControl Platform. For more information on eControl HD, and to login and try our eControl LIVE system, click here.

HDU was developed to provide a controlled, intuitive interface for Help Desk Operators (HDOs). HDU allows HDOs (appropriate rights required) to carry out changes to NDS, GroupWise, NetMail values and ZEN/NAL Application Associations from a simplified interface. With HDU, you no longer have to worry about your help desk operators or administrative support people "accidentally" deleting objects or making changes by mistake in NWAdmin or Console One.

Local administrators or password administrators no longer have to deal with the complexities of NWAdmin and/or Console One to quickly change a user's NDS or GroupWise password or to enable/disable an account. Teachers, lab assistants, or local administrators can use HDU with virtually no training — quick and simple.

HDU gives network administrators the ability to create a restricted interface that allows HDOs to manage NDS and GroupWise passwords, Group Membership, Organizational Role Occupants, eDir/NDS demographic information, Novell NetMail information, and to enable/disable accounts. Includes full support for ZENworks and NAL Application Association management. Future releases will allow HDOs to create/delete individual users based on HDO profiles.

HDU supports GroupWise 6.x, GW 5.5 EP, GW 5.5 Service Pack 5. It supports all versions of NetWare 6, 5, 4 and all versions of eDirectory.

There are two components to HDU: the HDU Configuration Utility and the HDU executable (with two versions, one with ZEN support and one without). To set up HDU, run the HDU Configuration Utility on a workstation. This will create the HDU.INI file that contains the security settings and functions that you want to be used by your Help Desk Operators. Different HDOs can have different HDU.INI files. The INI file contains the restrictions you have set including the NDS Search Contexts and visibility and security options. The INI file needs to be copied to the directory from which HDU.exe is run. HDU is licensed on a tree or NDS context basis.

When you download HDU, you can create and download a 30-day trial licence for HDU. Or, you can use the unlicensed version by creating an NDS/eDir user and GroupWise user called SAMPLEUSER (both the first name and last name must be SAMPLEUSER). This is the only user that can be fully managed with the trial version of HDU — all other users will be in Read Only mode. After purchasing HDU, you will receive a license file to be copied into the installation directory. This licence file unlocks HDU for the registered context or NDS tree.
