UPSTREAM Reservoir

UPSTREAM Reservoir provides comprehensive storage management protection for servers and databases anywhere in the enterprise. UPSTREAM Reservoir supports a wide variety of platforms as well as a choice of backup servers that include Windows, AIX, Intel @ Sun Solaris, x86 Linux and Linux for pSERIES and zSERIES as the backup Storage Server.

UPSTREAM reduces the administration effort required for the backup process with facilities that include silent installation, email event notification, and automatic upgrade capability.

UPSTREAM operates directly from the Novell server it is backing up as an "NLM" with JAVA management interface providing fast backup performance and reduced network overhead. Extensive Novell awareness includes NDS, SMS, Cluster Services support, name spaces, compressed data, and security attributes are all supported. UPSTREAM provides archival/disk grooming with non-disruptive online database agents including GroupWise support. UPSTREAM provides extensive support for SUSE Linux Enterprise 10 including OES/Linux and NSS volumes.

UPSTREAM Reservoir also supports Intel Linux and Linux for zSERIES and provides centralized storage management with automated backup/restore, file transfer and storage management operations. UPSTREAM offers online database agents for SQL, Oracle, DB2, and Lotus Notes Domino. UPSTREAM supports a variety of file system features including hard links, symbolic links, owners, Reiser, ext2, ext3, GFS, XFS, NFS, MAPFS, GPFS,single file system support, etc.

UPSTREAM Reservoir has extensive multi-platform support and online database agent support. UPSTREAM supports backup to disk or tape and backup devices can be a single tape drive, tape library, silo, or disk arrays. Supporting UPSTREAMs reputation for flexibility and maximum performance to meet your backup window is the ability to backup from disk to disk to tape as well as directly to tape. If written to disk UPSTREAM provides efficient transports and methods for backups to be migrated or vaulted to tape for offsite recovery. UPSTREAM Reservoir provides excellent tape utilization by stacking multiple systems or database data on high capacity tapes drives.

UPSTREAM will also reduce the amount of data transmitted through the use of compression, a very unique consolidation process (called Full Merge Backup) using incrementals to build a full backup, and duplicate file suppression. Full Merge backups help reduce the time and resources required to create a full backup, and can leverage what resources are available; enable the use of both disk and tape technologies. This functionality provides quick access to any files or complete systems that need to be recovered.

The SAN EXPRESS provides extremely high speed LAN Free data transfer to tape for the UPSTREAM Reservoir system. Now with the SAN EXPRESS the traditional backup bottlenecks are removed as it bypasses the local area network while also providing for very cost effective use of your tape drives and libraries. With the SAN EXPRESS multiple heterogeneous servers can now share backup systems and resources, resulting in reduced complexity, easy management and reducing costs.

UPSTREAM interfaces are easy to use and can provide cross-platform operation. The UPSTREAM Director Browser enabled interface allows administrators on any system to be able to initiate backups, perform inquires and restore files and directories, browse job logs, run reports and more. Using the Event Notification tool UPSTREAM has the ability of sending Email and SNMP notifications that can contain logs or reports when unforeseen events occur. These notifications are extremely helpful in identifying why something failed or be assured that the action worked successfully.
