CICS Universal Client
- IBM CICS® Universal Client primarily enables you to distribute desktop access to CICS across the enterprise. It provides a simple and cost effective method of integrating multiple CICS servers with Linux on Intel and Microsoft Windows® desktops.
- In addition, CICS Universal Client is can be used as an administrative client. It is additionally available on Linux on zSeries, for this purpose.
- CICS Universal Client is a non Java, two-tier implementation of the CICS Transaction Gateway client on the Windows, Linux on Intel and Linux on zSeries platforms. It enables CICS users to access business-critical information faster, and in new ways. It provides programming interfaces in C/C++, Visual Basic, and COBOL and supports a number of network protocols.
- The CICS Universal Client is for single users only, either for desktop application access or as a single user administrative client. It must not be installed in a server or multi-user environment. There is a restriction in the CICS Universal Client V6.0 that restricts the maximum number of concurrent tasks.
- Customers wishing to deploy a server configuration must licence the CICS Transaction Gateway. CICS Transaction Gateway Version 6.0 contains a superset of the functions offered in CICS Universal Client Version 6, and may be used to support multi-user integration applications written in C, C++, Visual Basic, and as Component Object Model (COM) objects.
