product details

The Smart Array 431 Controller is a single channel, 64-bit architecture, Wide Ultra3 array controller for entry-level hardware-based fault tolerance with support for up to 14 Wide Ultra3 SCSI hard drives.

The SA-431 provides one of the most cost effective alternatives to software based RAID in the market today-by lowering entry level and workgroup server ownership costs. In addition, the SA-431 is compatible with all LVD (Wide Ultra2 and Ultra3) drives and servers, therefore offering an unparalleled degree of investment protection.

Typical Use

  • A single Ultra3 channel allows for OS and data storage of up to 1TB.

  • Consistent with Compaq's LVD strategy, the Smart Array 532 Controller can be used to mix and match Ultra2 and Ultra3 devices on the same Ultra3 SCSI bus. When Ultra2 devices and Ultra3 devices are found on the same Ultra3 SCSI bus, each Ultra2 device will transfer data up to 80 MB/s, while each Ultra3 device will transfer data up to 160 MB/s.
