The PDM Advantage

Take full advantage of today's fastest copy/access technology that is both IBM TotalStorage Proven™ and IBM Server Proven™.

Existing PDM customers have achieved amazing results. Using the z/OpenGate™ FICON-FC gateway, customers have achieved transfer rates for parallel data transfers of 180+ MB/s over one FICON-FCP connection. Using GbE, customers have achieved transfer rates for parallel data transfers of 40+ MB/s over one GbE. PDM conforms to the security rules for each system, is sensitive to firewall issues, and optionally encrypts data. Operational efficiency. Direct application-to-application data access, taking full advantage of today's fastest data access technologies. Multiple connectors. PDM natively reads and writes VSAM, PDS, PDSE, GDG, TAPE, and SEQUENTIAL data sets and UNIX/Windows file systems. PDM is currently installed in many of the world's largest financial data centers.

Extremely fault-tolerant. PDM protects your company's most critical data through the use of checksums/cross checks/CRC of your data during transfer access. Centralized management featuring audit trails, journaling, journal archive, transfer monitoring and automated scheduling from a single point of control means lower operating costs. PDM provides buffer numbering, checksum, CRC and encryption of the data to ensure end-to-end integrity. Alebra uses a fixed licensing structure; not an MIPs-based fee structure or upgrade charges.

PDM is user-friendly. Once nodes are defined, users are not aware of the physical configuration, nor are they limited in what or when they can perform transfers. PDM does not require an Alebra Systems Engineer to change configurations. PDM's 3-party model means a single invocation of the client on one host can control transfers to/from all hosts in the enterprise making the system more suitable for automated operations and centralized control. Allows multiple files to be transferred with a single client invocation. PDM takes full advantage of today's fastest data-transfer technologies.

PDM has COBOL and Assembler API's on MVS to move data and CLI on UNIX/Windows. PDM provides a REXX interface to allow scripting on MVS systems. No single point of serialization. Efficient re-blocking of data buffers for maximized network performance and minimized CPU overhead. There is no limit to the number of clients accessing a server. There is no limit to the number of concurrent transfers a server can perform. Allows the system to be controlled and monitored by automated attendants or by live operators. PDM supports connections through a FICON-FC Gateway (z/OpenGate™) or TCP/IP (any topology). PDM also supports moving data through one node to get to another (downstream nodes). In this manner, PDM could be used as an enterprise data mover. PDM is hardware independent and works with all disk subsystem providers.

PDM can be instructed to perform checkpointing during transfer operations. In some cases, restart is automatic; in other cases, restart is performed manually, after the problem has been corrected. If transactions are not able to run immediately for any number of reasons (such as the dataset is in use) the transaction is queued by PDM until the resource becomes available. PDM logs SMF records, providing an audit trail for accounting or security purposes. PDM logs all pertinent data associated with a transaction and performance information.
