PRO/5(R) and Visual PRO/5(R) build on the traditional strengths of Business BASIC - decimal arithmetic, built-in field-verification capabilities and portability - with enhanced file system capabilities, enterprise scalability, Web-enabling technology, data security and protection, and improved network security and performance. Visual PRO/5 adds to these strengths a data dictionary, resource builder, and visual programming environment to create and debug GUI applications with point-and-click simplicity.

The BASIS legacy product suite for business applications includes:

As your enterprise grows, so can your PRO/5 or Visual PRO/5 application. Large file support in BASIS products gives you the ability to create and access files of virtually unlimited size on platforms that support the large file format.

Data Protection
BASIS' highly recoverable file option assures the integrity of your mission-critical data. The highly recoverable file format stores record tags along with a checksum of the record data/key information to facilitate the detection of corrupted records and allow for a more thorough recovery of the file.

Web-Enabling Technology
You can create true client/server applications, coordinate mail service, and manage remote processes, and other applications over a LAN, WAN or the Internet. PRO/5 and Visual PRO/5 enable communications directly with other computer via TCP or UDP sockets. Sockets can remain connected indefinitely, "listening" for requests without using precious CPU resources and affecting network performance.

Native Database
With the native database, you can save money by not having to purchase an external database.

Direct File Access or SQL
PRO/5 and Visual PRO/5 give you the flexibility of accessing data contained in BASIS files using native file access calls or SQL, depending on your system needs. Native file access calls allow you to read and write data to individual files in the fastest way possible. SQL provides the most efficient way to access related data in multiple files or when query criteria are complex.
