Solution Description:
The New South Wales Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA) is responsible for promoting road safety and traffic management, driver licensing and vehicle registration in New South Wales. With a wide variety of applications and databases, several operating system environments, and a range of custom developed systems needed to support its business, the RTA identified the need for a comprehensive identity management solution that could solve a variety of related problems.
To address its myriad challenges, the RTA developed a multi-phase identity management strategy to meet these and other requirements, and then selected technology from Novell and systems integration services from Dimension Data to deliver an end-to-end solution.
To date, phases 1 and 2 of the solution have been successfully delivered for the RTA, including a secure identity repository for user identity information; automated provisioning and de-provisioning SAP HR, Windows NT, Active Directory, Exchange and PABX Environments using Novell Identity Manager (formerly Novell DirXML); an accurate and up-to-date directory based white pages solution; and password synchronisation between Novell eDirectory and Active Directory

Open Integration partnered with Novell Consulting in Australia to develop a shared secure Web access infrastructure that allows nearly half a million current and retired public sector and Defence Force personnel with improved secure access a number of online services. The solution incorporates the Novell metadirectory (Novell Identity Manager) and secure Web access technologies (Novell iChain), which mesh the customer database with the corporate directory (Novell eDirectory) to create an automated customer access management system. A password management system was also implemented to resolve lost and forgotten password issues. The new authentication system has improved the security of online access and facilities for its 500,000 combined members, and significantly reduced administration overhead and calls to the support centre.

Solution Description:
Open Integration worked closely with Novell, the Department of the Prime Minister for the Australian Government and the CHOGM Taskforce, to include develop a communication and information technology system that was reliable and secure from hackers. Security was of paramount importance for the solution, which had to provide a fast, reliable, network including communication and IT for delegates, media and the CHOGM Taskforce—all of whom had different information needs and levels of security clearance.
To manage networks security, the CHOGM Taskforce deployed a variety of measures including virus scanners, a sophisticated firewall and intruder detection system able to detect even the 'smallest indication' of an unauthorised access attempt. Novell NetWare, Novell GroupWise, Volera Accelerator and Novell ZENworks were used to provide secure network access and authentication services (login access and security) as well as file and print services, desktop management, email and Internet access.
All IT infrastructure, workstations, and notebooks were installed over a six week period prior to the start of the event. A purpose built media centre ensured press and media representatives had secure access to all the resources they needed whenever they needed - which proved to be 24 hours a day for the entire CHOGM event. Moreover, each delegation could share information such as working papers, presentations, or notes and communicate using email securely within the delegation or to the broader CHOGM community. Users could also log in to the network and access all resources allocated to them at the remote sites during the conference. Qualified help was provided to users around the clock and the IT infrastructure provided a secure and reliable operating environment.

NSW businesslink is a NSW Government initiative to establish a shared corporate services organisation for a number of significant NSW government departments.
Starcom was engaged to design, deploy and integrate a network infrastructure incorporating File, Print & Messaging, Storage and Backup, IP Telephony and Identity Management for 700 staff with a migration path capable of supporting over 20,000 users. The project required co-existence of operating system directories and messaging from Novell and Microsoft for cross-platform calendaring, scheduling and resource management. To meet these requirements, the solution included Novell eDirectory, Novell DirXML, Novell NetWare and Novell GroupWise.
