Novell Open Enterprise Server 2
AFP and CIFS Protocol Support
Now, network scalability exceeds your expectations with new Novell-engineered protocol support for Common Internet File System (CIFS) and Apple Filing Protocol (AFP). Any number of Mac or Windows clients are now able to access existing file systems seamlessly.
AFP is Apple's network protocol solution to provide network file services for Mac OS-X and classic Mac OS. High numbers of Macintosh clients can mount a remotely located Volume (file system) using AFP and use the files simultaneously.
CIFS is a network file system plus a set of auxiliary services supported by underlying protocols. CIFS allows the sharing of directories, files, printers and advertisement across a network. CIFS includes protocols for service announcement, naming, authentication, and authorization.
