Could your end users be left behind by Emerson’s acquisition of Avocent?

Earlier this morning, you may have heard the news about Emerson’s acquisition of Avocent. According to the WSJ, Emerson, a manufacturer of industrial-automation equipment, power systems, and cooling gear, is pursuing this acquisition to help its clients become more “energy efficient.” Although the news continues to break, initial snippets show that this acquisition is largely a data center play. According to the CEO, “combining Avocent’s technologies, relationships and installed base with Emerson’s power and cooling presence allows us to offer a more compelling solution to our data center customers’ most pressing challenge — energy efficiency.”
This may be good for a company that is only looking to manage their data center, but key questions remain — what’s going to happen to LANDesk, a subsidiary of Avocent? Will Emerson keep LANDesk? What’s going to happen to current LANDesk customers or future customers? What’s going to happen to LANDesk partners? Does Emerson’s focus on the data center mean it will get out of the endpoint management business? As a LANDesk customer or partner, I’m sure these are just a few of the questions you’re asking.

Well, funny you should mention this… Emerson has been a LANDesk user and customer for many years now…And during thee annoucment mentioned a software play for the data centers…
