This week Forbes published an article by Novell CEO Ron Hovsepian discussing the need for an overarching corporate policy that addresses both security and compliance. From the article:

Collaboration between the security and compliance departments can and should be felt across an organization, but two evolving areas where collaboration is most important are cloud computing and enterprise mobility. In the case of the cloud, the lines of responsibility and ownership change when the IT infrastructure moves outside the four walls of the enterprise. Who is responsible for securing it?

You can read the entire article here.

Everyone is talking about cloud computing these days, but what is it really, and why should chief executives care?

Novell president and CEO Ron Hovsepian was asked by Forbes to write a jargon-free column on the business rationale for cloud computing. In the article Ron discusses the differences between public and private clouds, and argues that while cloud computing makes IT much more flexible and efficient, management need to think carefully about security and compliance issues. You can read the full article here.

There's been a lot of discussion lately about President Obama's interest in open source technology. He's not alone; many other governments around the world have already mandated open source or, like the European Union, have moved to heavily favor it. Forbes asked Novell CMO John Dragoon to express his view on the debate.
