Novell Access Manager
System Requirements
This page lists general product system requirements for each component of Novell Access Manager (Administration Console, Identity Server, Access Gateway and SSL VPN and J2EE Agents). For more detailed information, please see the full product documentation.
Identity Server Requirements
Hardware Requirements- 100 GB hard disk
- 2 GB RAM recommended with 1GB as the minimum
- 2.0 GHz processor or better
- SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9 SP3
- configure for a static IP address
- uninstall open LDAP (A default installation of SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9 installs and enables Open LDAP)
- gettext
- Python
- compat (libraries to address compatibility issues)
Access Gateway Requirements
The Access Gateway runs on both NetWare® and Linux and provides the same features on both platforms. Select one or the other based on your network preferences. Install the Access Gateway on its own machine because it clears the hard drive and sets up a soft appliance environment.
Hardware Requirements- 100 GB of disk space recommended, with 20 GB as the minimum
- 3 GB RAM recommended, with 2 GB as the minimum
- 3.0 GHz processor or better recommended, with 2.0 GHz as the minimum
The Access Gateway has no software requirements. The installation program for the Access Gateway re-images the hard drive, embeds the operating system (either NetWare or Linux), then configures the embedded operating system for optimal performance. Before proceeding with the Access Gateway installation, make sure you have a static IP address for your Access Gateway server and an assigned DNS name (host name and domain name). You need to know the following about your network:
- The subnet mask that corresponds to the IP address of the Access Gateway
- The IP address of the default gateway
- The IP addresses of the DNS servers on your network. These DNS servers need to be configured to resolve the DNS name of the Access Gateway to the IP address that you assign to it.
- The IP address or DNS name of a NTP server, if you have one in your local environment
You will be prompted to enter this information during the install process.
SSL VPN Requirements
The SSL VPN server requires the following:
- 100 MB of disk space
- Two or more network interface cards
- SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9 SP3
- gettext
- Tomcat and Java installed and running
- TCP port 7777 open
The SSL VPN client on Windows requires the following software:
- Windows 2000/XP
- Internet Explorer 6.0 SP2
- Firefox 1.5.0.8, with JRE Version: 1.4.1 or later
The SSL VPN client on Linux requires the following software:
- SUSE Linux Enterprise, Red Hat* Linux, or Novell Linux Desktop
- OpenSSL 0.9
- Shells: bash and xterm
- Firefox 1.5 or later
- JRE 1.4.1 or later (to download, see http://java.sun.com/j2se/)
The SSL VPN client on Macintosh requires the following software:
- Macintosh Tiger OS
- OpenSSL 0.9
- bash shell
- Macintosh Safari browser
- JRE 1.4.1 or later (to download, see http://java.sun.com/j2se/)
- Safari 2.0.4(419.3) and Java 1.4.2 (Note: Mac OS X includes the full version of Java 2, Standard Edition, version 1.4.2 - meaning you have the Java Developer Kit (JDK) and the HotSpot virtual machine (VM) without downloading, installing or configuring anything)
J2EE Agent Requirements
Access Manager J2EE Agents are available as a Web download from Novell (http://www.novell.com/products). As other agents become available, they will be posted on the Web for download.
JBoss Agent Requirements:
The J2EE Agent for JBoss should be installed on a computer that has no existing Access Manager components. The computer must have the following packages installed:
- SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9 SP3
- JBoss 4.0.3 SP1. The JBoss server package does not ship on the SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9 installation media. To download and install JBoss version 4.0.3 SP1, see JBoss Application Server Downloads (http://labs.jboss.com/portal/jbossas/download). Use one of the available compressed downloads with the Default or All configurations option. When you install JBoss using the JBoss Installer jar file, the JBoss server has a different configuration than an installation from a compressed JBoss download (.tar, .gz or .zip). The J2EE Agent cannot configure itself when JBoss is installed with the installer file.
- JRE 1.4.2-8 or later. To download, see Java SE Downloads (http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp).
IBM WebSphere Agent Requirements
The J2EE Agent for WebSphere should be installed on a computer that has no existing Access Manager components. The computer must have the following packages installed:
- WebSphere 6.0.2.x
- SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9, SP3
WebSphere 6.1 is not supported.
VMware ESX Requirements
The ESX version of VMware is a supported platform for Access Manager, but your Vmware machine must have enough resources. You need to dedicate the minimum requirements that a physical machine would require for the Access Manager component. To have performance comparable to a physical machine, you need to increase the memory and CPU requirements. For the hard disk, RAM, and CPU requirements, see the requirements for the individual components (above).
