Novell Cluster Services v1.01 for NetWare 5.1

Overview

Novell Cluster Services™ v1.01 is also available for NetWare® 5. You can learn more about this product by viewing the Novell Cluster Services v1.01 for NetWare 5 product description.

Novell Cluster Services v1.01 for NetWare 5.1 is a server-clustering system you can use to ensure high availability and manageability of critical network resources, including data (volumes), applications, server licenses, and services. It is a multi-node, Novell eDirectory-enabled clustering product for NetWare 5.1 that supports failover, failback, and migration (load balancing) of individually managed cluster resources.

Using Novell Cluster Services, you can configure up to 32 NetWare 5.1 servers into a high-availability cluster, where resources can be dynamically moved to any server in the cluster. You can also configure resources to be moved automatically in the event of a server failure and move them manually when you need to troubleshoot hardware or balance the workload.

With Novell Cluster Services you enjoy high availability from common, readily available components. You can also lower your business costs through the consolidation of applications and operations onto a cluster. The ability to manage a cluster from a single point of control, adjust resources to meet changing workload requirements, and reduce unplanned service outages and planned outages for software and hardware maintenance and upgrades are additional benefits of Novell Cluster Services.

Novell Cluster Services requires that NetWare 5.1 run on each cluster server: you cannot mix two versions of NetWare 5.x in a cluster. It also requires that all servers in the cluster be configured with the IP protocol and be on the same IP subnet. Each server must have at least 64MB of RAM (128MB recommended) and all servers must be in the same eDirectory tree. In addition, each server must have at least one local disk device (not shared) to be used as volume SYS, and the eDirectory tree must be replicated on at least two servers in the cluster. A centrally shared storage device (e.g., a storage area network) is also recommended. For additional hardware requirements please see the detailed product description located at http://www.novell.com/products/clusters/ncs101/details.html. On the management workstation, Novell Client™ version 4.50.819 for Windows NT or version 3.0.0.0 for Windows 95/98 must be installed. The management workstation should also have a 300MHz processor or faster and 90MB of memory.

Novell Cluster Services v1.01 for NetWare 5.1 is available in English, French, German, Portuguese, and Spanish.
