Discovery: Notification
Provides the capability to alert an external system of an event that has occurred in the directory.
Notification ensures that data in the directory is current and reliable. As people and applications look to the directory for information about their environment, they require data that is accurate and up-to-date. Rather than relying on a polling system, updates to the Novell eDirectory full-service directory are event-driven. When changes occur, the directory database is updated as immediately as the infrastructure permits.
Example:
Critical to the operation of a business is the accuracy of the corporate address book. If you have previously synchronized your address book with the directory, any additions, updates, or deletions must be communicated between the two. In this example a user is added to the directory and an alert is sent to the corporate address book of this addition.
