The Novell eDirectory full-service directory can provide more than just rudimentary search capabilities. It has the ability to tailor its performance to selected or general searches as needed by users or applications. This unique ability allows for optimized searches against data not typically indexed by the directory.

Example:

In this example we need to find all user's last names and telephone numbers for a human resource application. The last name and telephone number are NOT necessarily indexed as part of the directory's design, yet the capability to ad hoc index this data is very beneficial to the application.
