Subscription can include a number of situations in the directory. For example, the Novell eDirectory full service directory provides the Add-Self capability. This simple process tells the directory that you want to be notified when some event happens. Another example is the process of adding yourself to a mailing to be sent a newsletter or to receive specific alerts when your favorite stock hits a new high.

Example:

In this example the user adds herself to a mailing list to receive the company's monthly newsletter via email. The subscription process is as simple as typing in the user's email address. Likewise, the if the user no longer wishes to receive the newsletter she can unsubscribe to it.
