Provides Detailed Storage Intelligence

Gather detailed storage information so you can optimize for efficiency and compliance

An accurate analysis of the files you store on your network servers and devices is critical. Knowing what files you’re storing, where you’re storing them, who has access to them, when users last accessed them and how many versions of each file exist is invaluable and can help you make your storage more efficient and compliant with data storage regulations.

We developed Novell File Reporter to examine and report on terabytes of data. To do so efficiently, Novell File Reporter disperses the work between a Novell File Reporter engine and Novell File Reporter agents. Through its agent, Novell File Reporter takes a scan of a storage resource’s file system. Scans are indexed and compressed information specific to a storage resource. Novell File Reporter only decompresses scans when using the data within them to generate reports.

To generate a report, the engine takes scans that apply to report specifications and consolidates them through indexing. For best results, you can view reports through filters, which can present entries according to the criteria you wish to see.

You can save reports as either HTML or comma-separated values (CSV) files, the latter of which you can import into spreadsheet applications such as Microsoft Excel.

When the Novell File Reporter engine presents your file data in a report, you have the information you need to take action. You might delete duplicate files, archive unused files, remove “orphaned” home directories, modify access controls or implement Novell Storage Manager policies to more efficiently store your files and automate your file system management.
