Specifications for deployment

NOTE: Micro Focus File Reporter can be installed to work in a variety of configurations. Before installing, you should understand how to deploy File Reporter to best meet the needs of your organization by reading Chapter 1, "Deployment Planning" of the Micro Focus File Reporter 3.0 Installation Guide.


Database

Important: For acceptable performance, we recommend that the database and the Engine be hosted on separate servers.

Microsoft SQL Server

Server Host

  • Any of the following 64-bit multi-core processor machines:
    • Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 or later with latest service pack / Update
    • Windows Server 2012
    • Windows Server 2012 R2
  • Minimum of 16 GB RAM Depending on the size and frequency of your scans, you may need significantly more RAM.
  • Disk space requirements
    • For disk space requirements, a good estimate is allocating 3 KB per file system entry.

Microsoft SQL Server Software

  • Any of the following versions:
    • SQL Server 2012 64-bit SP3 or later
    • SQL Server 2014 64-bit SP1 or later

ProtgreSQL

Server Host

  • File Reporter 3.0 supports the following x64 Linux servers as hosts for the PostgreSQL database:
    • SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11
    • SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 SP1
    • SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 SP2
    • SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 SP3
    • SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12
    • Open Enterprise Server 11
    • Open Enterprise Server 11 SP1
    • Open Enterprise Server 11 SP2
    • Open Enterprise Server 2015
    • CentOS7
    • Red Hat Linux Enterprise Server 7

  • Disk space requirements:
    • Minimum of 16 GB RAM Depending on the size and frequency of your scans, you may need significantly more RAM.
    • Minimum 150 MB disk space Depending on the size and frequency of your scans, you may need significantly more disk space.

PostgreSQL Software

  • Version 9.2 or later with the latest service pack release
  • 64-bit edition

Engine

  • Any of the following 64-bit multi-core processor machines:
    • Windows Server 2008 R2
    • Windows Server 2012
    • Windows Server 2012 R2
  • The server must be in the Active Directory domain
  • File Reporter supports a minimum forest functional level of Windows 2003 or later in native mode
  • Minimum of 16 GB RAM Depending on the size and frequency of your scans, you may need significantly more RAM.
  • Disk space requirements:
    • 20 GB for installation files and free space for scans

Agents

Windows

  • Microsoft Windows Servers:
    • Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 or later
    • Windows Server 2012
    • Windows Server 2012 R2
  • The server must be in the Active Directory domain
  • Minimum of 100 MB RAM per concurrent scan For example, if you planned on your agent conducting scans on 4 volumes or shares concurrently, you would need a minimum of 400 MB of RAM. NOTE: Performance depends not only the number of concurrent scans, but also the size of the directory structure for each volume or share. Adding more RAM than the minimum requirement can obviously increase performance.
  • Minimum of 10 GB free disk space

Linux

  • Any of the following servers:
    • Open Enterprise Server 11 SP2 with an x64 processor
    • Open Enterprise Server 2015
    • Open Enterprise Server 2015 SP1
  • Minimum of 100 MB RAM per concurrent scan For example, if you planned on your agent conducting scans on 4 volumes or shares concurrently, you would need a minimum of 400 MB of RAM. NOTE: Performance depends not only the number of concurrent scans, but also the size of the directory structure for each volume or share. Adding more RAM than the minimum requirement can obviously increase performance.
  • Minimum of 10 GB free disk space

NAS Devices

In Active Directory network environments, File Reporter can report on the contents of Network Attached Storage (NAS) devices through an NFR Agent proxy assignment. File Reporter supports the following NAS devices:

  • EMC Celerra
  • NetApp filer
  • EMC Isilon
  • Hitachi NAS Platform

Note: The NAS devices listed above are those that have been lab tested. File Reporter may be able to report on the contents of other NAS devices that are not listed. For these other NAS devices, File Reporter supports a generic NAS device description attribute for the NAS object to be seen by File
