Specifications for deployment
Note: Novell File Reporter can be installed to work in a variety of configurations. Before installing, you should understand how to deploy Novell File Reporter to best meet the needs of your organization by reading Chapter 1, "Deployment Planning" of the Novell File Reporter 2.0 Administration Guide.
PostgreSQL Database
Windows Server
- Any of the following servers with x64 processors:
- Windows Server 2008 R2
- Windows Server 2012
- Minimum of 4 GB RAM
Depending on the size and frequency of your scans, you may need significantly more RAM.
- Disk space requirements
- Minimum 700 MB if you install the PostgreSQL database on the same server as the Novell File Reporter
- Minimum 350 MB if you install the PostgreSQL database on a different server
Linux Server
- Novell File Reporter 2.0 supports the following x64 Linux servers as hosts for the PostgreSQL database:
- SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11
- SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 SP1
- SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 SP2
- Novell Open Enterprise Server 11
- Novell Open Enterprise Server 11 SP1
- Minimum of 4 GB of RAM

Novell File Reporter Engine
Active Directory as Primary Identity System
- Any of the following servers with x64 processors:
- Windows Server 2008 R2
- Windows Server 2012
- The server must be in the Active Directory domain
- The forest functional level must be Windows Server 2003, 2008, 2008 R2, or 2012 in native mode
- Minimum of 4 GB RAM
Depending on the size and frequency of your scans, you may need significantly more RAM. - Disk space requirements:
- Minimum 700 MB if you install the PostgreSQL database on the same server as the NFR Engine
- Minimum 350 MB if you install the PostgreSQL database on a different server
Depending on the size and frequency of your scans, you may need to significantly increase these amounts.
eDirectory as Primary Identity System
- Any of the following servers with x64 processors:
- Windows Server 2008 R2
- Windows Server 2012
- Minimum of 4 GB RAM
Depending on the size and frequency of your scans, you may need significantly more RAM. - If you want Novell File Reporter to report on storage devices that reside in Active Directory, the server on which you are installing the NFR Engine must meet the following requirements:
- Is part of a domain
- The forest functional level must be Windows Server 2003, 2008, 2008 R2, or 2012 in native mode
- Disk space requirements:
- Minimum 700 MB if you install the PostgreSQL database on the same server as the NFR Engine
- Minimum 350 MB if you install the PostgreSQL database on a different server

Novell File Reporter Agents
Windows
- Any or the following servers:
- Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2 with an x32 or x64 processor
- Windows Server 2008 with an x32 or x64 processor
- Windows Server 2008 R2
- Windows Server 2012
- Open Enterprise Server: Novell Open Enterprise Server 2 SP1 or later
- If you want Novell File Reporter to report on storage devices that reside in Active Directory, the server must be in the Active Directory domain
- The forest functional level must be Windows Server 2003, 2008, 2008 R2, or 2012 in native mode
- Minimum of 4 GB RAM
Depending on the size and frequency of your scans, you may need significantly more RAM. - Minimum of 160 MB disk space
Linux
- Any of the following servers:
- Novell Open Enterprise Server 2 SP2 with an x32 or x64 processor
- Novell Open Enterprise Server 2 SP3 with an x32 or x64 processor
- Novell Open Enterprise Server 11 with an x64 processor
- Novell Open Enterprise Server 11 SP1 with an x64 processor
- Minimum of 4 GB RAM
