Take Advantage of the Impact of Your E-business
Businesses need strong security, particularly if they're connected to the Internet and offer online products and services. Novell iChain is an integrated security solution that controls access to network resources across technical and organizational boundaries. It includes identity-based Web security services and provides users with secure authentication and access to portals, Web-based content and Citrix* Thin Client services. Using Novell iChain, organizations can simplify security management, control the use of digital assets across the extended enterprise and get more from investments in eBusiness applications.
Simplify Management
"With the confidential nature of our business, we require reliable security features. Novell iChain services are unmatched by any other product on the market. We have complete confidence in the Novell solution."
Novell iChain provides a simple, highly effective approach to Internet security. With identity-based management and its unique proxy-accelerator architecture, Novell iChain easily plugs in to your existing environment. A convenient installationand-configuration wizard and the easy-to-use Novell management utilities also minimize your installation and configuration overhead. Moreover, Novell iChain does not require you to add code or agents to your Web servers to enable security or personalization features. You merely plug Novell iChain in and your sites are secure—it's that simple.
Novell popularized modern directory technology, so of course Novell iChain is natively integrated and ships with Novell eDirectory™, the industry-acclaimed cross-platform directory service from Novell. Novell iChain simplifies your administrative and Web development efforts by leveraging the identity information—stored in Novell eDirectory—across AIX*, HP-UX*, Linux*, NetWare®, Solaris* and Windows* platforms. Novell iChain also simplifies your Web developers' jobs, because it provides a secure infrastructure they can count on. Developers no longer have to code their own security for every Web application they create. In addition, system administrators will appreciate the over-the-wire upgrade (OTWUG) feature, which significantly simplifies the upgrade process.
Secure Information
The Novell iChain proxy architecture does far more than simplify security administration; it adds an additional layer of security to your network. The Novell iChain proxy server replaces your Web server as the public interface to your Web site. This means that if someone attacked your network, they would have to breach the proxy server before they could access the Web server. You can also configure Novell iChain to require user authentication for access to specified Web content and applications. It will allow access to only those users (or groups of users) to whom access has been specifically granted.
Novell iChain supports strong authentication methods, including tokens from leading vendors (such as ActivCard*, RSA* and VASCO*), X.509 certificates from all major PKI vendors and multi-factor authentication. This means you have a choice of using the standard username and password authentication option, requiring a token or a smart card that contains an X.509 certificate or—for added security—requiring multiple methods for access to your Web site. In addition, Novell iChain offers password-management options that allow administrators to require stronger passwords for Novell iChain authentication.
To protect data during transmission, Novell iChain secures the data channel between the proxy server and the user's Web browser. The proxy server creates an on-the-fly Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) session with the browser, and thereby safeguards any data that's transmitted or received. Because Novell iChain allows multiple SSL accelerators to be used on a single port, it integrates easily with most existing firewall configurations.
Accelerate Access
Even while it simplifies administration and secures irreplaceable data, Novell iChain accelerates your access to information and overall eBusiness integration. Novell iChain is built on industry-leading caching technology that delivers diverse cacheable material—graphics, static HTML pages, PDFs, and so on—much faster than a standard Web server.
Most importantly, Novell iChain helps you maintain a competitive edge, especially in online markets. Because it provides a flexible infrastructure, you can deliver new Web applications faster than ever before.
Enable Single Sign-On
Single Sign-On makes it possible for a user to log in just once in order to gain access to multiple applications, platforms and even Internet domains, instead of having to enter a password and user ID for each one. By forwarding authentication information to a Web server in the HTTP authentication header, Novell iChain provides single sign-on to Web resources that use Basic HTTP authentication. Once users have logged into a network computer, they are automatically authenticated to all of the applications and data to which they have authorized access. This feature is an optional setting for each Web site that's accelerated by Novell iChain. The injection of user credentials in the HTTP header is performed by the OLAC technology inherent in Novell iChain. iChain also offers a form-fill authentication feature that simplifies access to Web applications.
