SAML extension for Novell iChain®

Overview

The SAML extension for Novell iChain helps you improve relationships with both customers and business partners. As its name suggests, the SAML extension for Novell iChain relies on Security Assertion Markup Language (SAML), an emerging standard for secure, online data exchange. With this extension, you can enhance your iChain implementation and securely share user information with trusted business partners across the Web.

This free download extends the Novell Security and Identity solution to include a flexible, federated identity management service that you can fine tune to meet your specific needs, as well as those of your partners. Just as importantly, the SAML extension for Novell iChain offers single sign-on access to Web-based resources. Consequently, customers don't have to remember dozens of passwords to do business with you and your partners. Furthermore, you can collaborate with your partners to deliver a set of personalized services that seamlessly integrate the business offerings on your respective Web sites.

Maximize Relationships

Securely share the information that drives successful business relationships. Businesses everywhere recognize the vast relationship-building potential of the Internet; the SAML extension for Novell iChain helps you tap this potential. Using the SAML standard, this product securely shares user authentication and attribute information with specified partner sites.

The SAML extension for Novell iChain enables single sign-on access across organizational boundaries. With this key benefit, you can provide a set of personalized services and seamlessly integrate offerings from multiple locations or organizations. Using the SAML extension for Novell iChain, you can also share personal information—such as user preferences—that can help you tailor your offerings to users' needs and interests.

The result? Whether users are customers, employees or partners, they enjoy a personalized, integrated experience when they do business with you and your partners. And you and your partners benefit by realizing increased user satisfaction and loyalty, and by reducing the costs normally associated with the creation of business-to-business services.

Leverage Your Existing Resources

Save money: implement a solution that works with your existing network resources. The SAML extension for Novell iChain builds on iChain's flexible proxy architecture. Consequently, if your infrastructure already includes iChain proxy services, you can deploy SAML-enabled services without ripping and replacing this infrastructure.

However, you don't need a proxy-services infrastructure to take advantage of the emerging SAML standard: the SAML extension for Novell iChain includes a SAML toolkit, which you can use to add SAML capabilities to any existing Web application. (Check the latest version of the Novell Developer Kit (NDK) for updates to this toolkit.) That is, the SAML toolkit provides a framework for developing solutions that leverage SAML and your existing infrastructure—even if iChain proxy services don't fit this infrastructure.
