PlateSpin Migrate
Migrate and Optimize Server Workloads
Most data centers have a diverse mix of hardware platforms, operating systems and virtualization technologies. To be successful, all of these elements must work together to drive operational efficiency, agility and business growth. Designed to handle the realities of these complex mixed environments, PlateSpin® Migrate offers the features and capabilities you need to reduce costs, complexity and risk in your data center—and create a more unified approach for solving crucial migration and portability challenges.
PlateSpin Migrate Features
Multi-platform Workload Migration
Take advantage of full support for all of the leading virtualization solutions, including VMware ESX & ESXi, Microsoft Hyper-V and Virtual Server, SUSE® Linux Enterprise with Xen, Virtual Iron, and Citrix XenServer. PlateSpin Migrate also supports multiple operating systems, hardware configurations and imaging technologies. PlateSpin Migrate automatically configures your server workloads to operate on the target environment. This includes making all of the necessary driver, kernel and configuration changes.
Support for 64-Bit Windows and Linux Workloads
Migrate critical 32-bit and 64-bit Windows and Linux workloads across infrastructure boundaries. PlateSpin Migrate provides full support for Windows environments including 64-bit Windows 2003 and Windows XP workloads. PlateSpin Migrate also provides 64-bit functionality for both SUSE Linux Enterprise Server and Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
Live Transfer
Enable the migration or image capture of active Windows servers without taking the source servers offline or having to reboot. Unlike snapshot-based replication, Live Transfer makes sure data changes that take place during a migration are moved as well, maintaining workload consistency.
Block-Level and File Replication
Enable the movement of highly transactional workloads such as mail servers and database servers with block-level replication. With block-level transfer, only the portion of a file that has changed is replicated. This is ideal for synchronizing large database servers and enabling efficient offsite data transfers. For more static workloads, file-based replication provides fast, efficient and cost-effective workload migration while maintaining server uptime.
Server Sync™
Reduce the risks of workload relocation projects like server consolidation and data center relocation. Server Sync performs an initial transfer to the target site or host, tests the workload in the new location while continuing to run the source. It then performs a final sync before cutting over the workload. Server Sync can also speed up workload migrations over wide area networks by eliminating the need for a second full system replication after testing.
Migration Speed and Scalability
Perform up to 40 simultaneous workload migrations on high-performance hardware to dramatically reduce the time required to complete data center tasks such as server consolidation or hardware migration.
Automatic Discovery
Automatically discover existing physical or virtual machines throughout the network for complete visibility into hardware, operating systems, services and application inventory.
Task-Based Wizards/Drag-and-Drop Interface
Reduce learning curves and simplify workload migration with the PlateSpin Migrate drag-and-drop interface and intuitive built-in workflows. Task-based wizards for common actions and advanced job setups make the process of configuring migration jobs and moving, copying and deploying workloads easier and more reliable.
On-the-Fly Configuration
Reconfigure and right-size CPU, disk, memory and network resources on the fly to adjust to changing workload needs and target machine resources.
Industry-Leading Automation
Speed up workload migration tasks and reduce manual errors with the highest level of automation available for workload planning, testing and migration. Automate post-migration tasks by using custom batch files or user-defined scripts to minimize manual intervention and free up valuable IT resources for other tasks.
Multiple Image Support
Reuse and redeploy PlateSpin Flexible Images or use existing third-party image inventories over and over, across different hardware for quick conversion deployment. With PlateSpin Migrate, you can capture the image once and then reuse it repeatedly.
Remote Control
Control all of your migrations from a single console—without worrying about agents, boot CDs or physical contact with source or target machines. This will save you the time and costs associated with having IT staff onsite at remote locations..
Role-Based Access
Take advantage of a range of security features, including user authentication, authorization and logging. These features let system administrators effectively manage and monitor user activities and assign the right privileges to the right users.
Cohesive Planning and Execution
Use PlateSpin Migrate with PlateSpin Recon to automate the assessment, planning, testing and migration phases of a successful data center initiative.
