Downloading and Managing Novell Software Files
Including How to Burn a CD from an ISO file
iso images
Locate the unzipped file (an .iso file) in the location in which it has been saved.
Many of the Novell e-Software deliverables contain ISO Images. It is important to note that the software you have ordered can not be installed directly from the electronic .iso file. A CD image of the file MUST be created first. Create the installation CD according to the instructions of your CD imaging software. As an example, the following instructions use Adaptec's* Easy CD Creator.*
(An .iso file is an exact copy of a Novell distribution CD. It may be helpful to think of an ISO image much as you would a computer screen capture. With a screen capture, all of the information on a computer screen is captured so that it can be printed in a document. With an .iso file, all of the information on a particular CD is captured in a image which can be then delivered electronically. Once the .iso file is burned to a CD, an exact duplicate of the original CD is created.)
Self-extracting executables
Once you have downloaded, and saved the file, you may allow the unzip process to use the default location, rather than browsing to a new location. In the example below, the decompression process unpacked the zipped file into a new folder located on the C Drive entitled, "iFolder." As you can see in the example below, the software is now ready to install according to instructions that can be found in your product documentation.
Using Easy CD Creator to burn an iso image
After opening the Easy CD Creator program, select ‘Record CD from CD Image’ from the file menu at the top left.
Browse to the folder that you saved the ISO image during the download and unzipping process as described above.
Change the file type to .iso through utilizing the drop down arrow in the "Files of type:" command at the bottom of the screen. The file type will switch from *.cif to *iso during this process. Once you have done this, your ISO file will show up in the folder. Highlight it and select the "‘Open" button.
The CD writing dialog box will automatically open. Select the burning options that are best for your system. Insert a blank CD-R into your burner, if you have not already done so. Select the "Start Recording" button to continue.
The process may take several minutes, depending on the size of the ISO image as well as your CD burner’s ability. Once the disc is finished burning, select the "OK" button to complete the process.
You may now close the Easy CD Creator software. This disc is ready for use and the software may be installed and used.
Please refer to the Novell product documentation for complete software installation instructions.
