Novell Modular Authentication Service (NMAS)
Features & Benefits
- Powerful security for your network
- Take control of who can see what. NMAS is a component of eDirectory, Novell's market-leading directory service, that secures your network while reducing security-related management costs. With NMAS, you can control network access using one or more login methods to protect your organization's most valuable resources.
- Flexible login options
- Get the login to work exactly the way you want it. Novell provides login methods that support the use of smart cards, proximity cards, Kerberos tickets, public/private PKI certificates, passwords, and challenge responses to authenticate your users. Novell partners provide additional login methods that support the use of one-time password (OTP) tokens and biometric devices to provide extra layers of security. From simple to sophisticated authentication methods, Novell's convenient and intuitive administrative tools centralize authentication management, eliminating security loopholes.
- Graded authentication for layered security
- Don't become the next security breach headline. Novell helps you add extra protection to your customers' credit card numbers or other highly confidential information. You can require up to three consecutive authentication methods - such as a password, a digital certificate and a fingerprint or face scan. By including graded authentication and adding extra security measures for remote and in-house users, NMAS protects your network from potential threats both inside and outside the firewall.
- Password Management
- Easy control of passwords using policies. NMAS manages and enforces password policies protecting all of your resources:
- Configurable password complexity policies (defines what has to be in the password)
- Password lifetime (defines when users have to change their passwords)
- Unique passwords (password history prevents old passwords from being used)
- Disallowed values (defines words or values not allowed in passwords)
- Login verification (ensures the password conforms to the password policies)
- Intruder detection (account is locked after a defined number of failed attempts)
- Multi-platform support
- No need to change platforms. NMAS technology is available on Linux, Windows, NetWare, and Solaris. It is included in a number of Novell products and solutions including Novell Secure Login, Novell Client for Windows, Novell Access Manager, Novell Identity Manager, Identity Assurance Solution, and eDirectory. Web-based applications can use advanced authentication methods by using the NMAS Java client.
