Dynamic Storage Technology
Significantly reduce storage management costs, simplify regulatory compliance, and enhance backup and recovery efforts.
Dynamic Storage Technology addresses problems caused by non-stop growth of users’ unstructured data and its massive and ever-increasing consumption of expensive and high-performing storage space. Based on polices you define, it seamlessly and transparently moves unused, seldom used, or less important data to less expensive or offline data stores in a way that allows users to view and access that information just as if it were still located where they originally stored it. This saves valuable space on your most expensive and highest-performing storage devices, and considerably improves their backup windows.
To accomplish this, Dynamic Storage Technology creates two independent partitions (or “tiers”) for users’ unstructured data. It stores data that has been recently created or accessed on a primary partition, typically located on high-performance disk storage devices, such as a SAN. Then according to policy, it dynamically moves less active data to a secondary partition that would likely reside on less expensive storage. When any inactive data is accessed or modified, it can dynamically move that data back to the primary partition according to defined policy. While these two partitions physically exist independently on separate storage devices, the end users’ view of the data is unified as a single, familiar volume from which they can access files.
As a result, end users see no change in the way they access their information, while data storage is automatically optimized based on policies and actual use to enable your systems to run more efficiently, reduce administrative and storage costs, and enhance user productivity.
