Voice over IP (VoIP) has gained significant momentum as the Internet infrastructure has matured to provide consistent and reliable bandwidth. openSUSE 11.0 includes Ekiga, a web phone that allow users to talk to other users anywhere in the world using the Internet as the communication infrastructure. With VoIP there are no connection or line charges beyond those of your standard Internet connection. This VoIP solution includes a variety of codecs, support DTMF (dial tones) and SIP (IETF protocol) and requires only a standard sound card. Additionally, Ekiga is interoperable with Microsoft NetMeeting.
