Open Enterprise Server
System Requirements
Prior to installing Novell Open Enterprise Server for Linux, ensure that your system meets the following requirements:
- Server-class computer
- Pentium II processor (A Pentium 4 at 1.5 GHz is recommended.)
- 512 MB RAM minimum (1 GB is recommended.)
- 10 GB free disk space
Note: The RAM and disk space amounts shown here are for system components only. The service components you install might require additional RAM and disk space.
Prior to installing Novell Open Enterprise Server for NetWare, ensure that your system meets the following requirements:
- A server-class PC with a Pentium II or AMD K7 processor (A server-class PC with two-way Pentium III, Pentium III Xeon, Pentium 4, or Intel Xeon 700 MHz or higher processors is recommended.)
- 512 MB of RAM (1 GB of RAM is recommended.)
- A Super VGA display adapter (A VESA 1.2-compliant, high resolution display adapter is recommended)
- A DOS partition of at least 200 MB and 200 MB available space (A boot partition with 1 GB of available space is recommended)
- 1 GB of available, unpartitioned disk space outside the DOS partition for volume sys: (4 GB is recommended.)
- At least one network board
- A bootable CD drive that supports the El Torito specification
- A USB or PS/2 mouse (recommended)
GroupWise
The following requirements are for a basic GroupWise 7 installation. For in-depth system requirements, see GroupWise 7 documentation.
GroupWise 7 server requirements- 32-bit/x86 processor or 64-bit/x86 processor running in 32-bit mode
- Any of the following server operating systems, plus the latest support pack:
- Novell Open Enterprise Server (NetWare or Linux version)
- NetWare 5.1, NetWare 6.0, or NetWare 6.5
- SUSE® Linux Enterprise Server 10
- Windows 2000 Server or Windows 2003 Server
- eDirectory™ 8.7 or later
- ConsoleOne® 1.3.6 or later
Note: Novell GroupWise ships with the eDirectory version required to run it. You do not need to purchase eDirectory separately, unless you are interested in the product for non-GroupWise purposes. ConsoleOne on Linux requires Java Virtual Machine (JVM) 1.4.2, plus The X Window System, version X11R6 or later.
- Windows 2000/XP/2003 and the Novell Client™ on any administrator machine where you run ConsoleOne or the GroupWise Installation program
Any of the following Windows versions, plus the latest service pack for your version of Windows:
- Windows 2000 on a Pentium 200 or higher with at least 128 MB of RAM
- Windows XP Professional on a Pentium 300 or higher with at least 128 MB of RAM
- Windows 2003 on a Pentium 300 or higher with at least 128 MB of RAM
- 200 MB of free disk space to install the Windows client
Any of the following desktop operating systems, plus the latest support pack:
- SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10
- Novell Linux Desktop, plus the KDE desktop or the GNOME desktop
- Red Hat Desktop 4 or Red Hat Enterprise Linux WS 4
- Java Virtual Machine (JVM) 1.5 or later
- 200 MB of free disk space to install the cross-platform client
Any of the following desktop operating systems, plus the latest support pack:

- The minimum JDK/JRE version required to use OpenOffice.org features that require java is JDK/JRE version 1.3.1.
- To use the XSLT filters with JDK 1.3.1 you should download the files xalan.jar and xml-apis.jar from Xalan website and crimson.jar from Crimson website. The files also need to be added to the OpenOffice.org classpath, this can be accomplished with Tools->options->OpenOffice.org->Security
- For full functionality, jdk/jre 1.4.0_02 or newer or jdk/jre 1.4.1_01 or newer is required
