Migrates and manages storage

Fortunately, Novell Storage Manager can automate storage migrations quickly and easily through the policies that you create. Moving storage from one device to another is as simple as changing a policy path and then initiating the migration request.
Making sure that network storage disk space is always available can be a constant challenge. It often requires moving older data from more expensive primary storage devices to less expensive secondary or tertiary backup storage devices. However, that can make files difficult to locate. Novell Storage Manager records and maintains the managed data path of each file, so you always know where to find it.
Novell Storage Manager lets you set up policies that automate the transition of home directories of employees that leave the company. You can configure rules to automatically vault storage, defer the cleanup of storage for a set number of days, or queue the storage to a defined manager. There are also options for moving a former employee's status to inactive.

Different roles in an organization often have different storage needs, including network home directory storage space required for the organization's various roles. A user's role also determines what kind of group storage access the user needs. Novell Storage Manager automates the creation of user storage based on role and grants access to group storage areas automatically.
