Phased rollout

We intentionally designed Novell ZENworks Network Access Control to be implemented in phases. That way, you can take advantage of its sophisticated functionality, such as automated device remediation and automated quarantining, in a controlled way that works with your schedule.

Understand policy compliance testing

Initially, we recommend rolling out Novell ZENworks Network Access Control on just a few segments of your network and limiting functionality to compliance testing and then evaluating the results. This approach will help you answer the following questions and get your product working at maximum capacity.

• Do you need to fine tune your access policies?
• Do you need additional access policies for different classes of users?
• Does useful, actionable data stand out, or is it buried in white noise?

By designing the product to roll out in phases, we give you the opportunity to get ZENworks Network Access Control running smoothly with your network before deploying it on a larger scale.

Creating a remediation approach

Once you're comfortable with the data generated during device testing, you'll need to figure out your remediation approach. Which fixes can end users implement on their own? Which can be handled automatically through your patch manager? And which require intervention from your help desk? Once devices are fixed, evaluate the re-testing process. Are validation tests launching as expected and returning data that confirms the fixes have been successfully implemented?

Quarantine strategies

In the final stages of a Novell ZENworks Network Access Control rollout, you implement your enforcement and quarantining strategies. Initially we recommend you manually enforce noncompliance and evaluate the process from both a technical and a business perspective. Only after you're certain that the process and user experience meet your expectations should you turn on automated enforcement.
