What are the default rights of [Public]?

(Last modified: 27Jan2003)

This document (10060465) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

goal

What are the default rights of [Public]?

fact

NDS Version 8

NDS Version 8.5

symptom

[Public] seems to have too many rights

fix

Depending on the DS version and the products that have been installed, the list of attributes to which [Public] has default rights may differ from the list below.  This list was generated from a server running NetWare 5.1 and NDS 8.5 with DirXML.

When [Public] is added as a trustee of [Root], it should get BROWSE Object rights (entry rights).  With that, it should get READ and COMPARE rights to the following properties.  These should be assigned automatically, and do not need to be explicitly given (these rights will show up in a greyed-out manner in ConsoleOne).

If [Public] does not have the correct rights, remove it as a trustee from all levels in the tree and then add it back as an explicit trustee of [Root].  Doing so will not only cause the default assignments to regenerate, but will also cause the Inherited ACL to recalculate throughout the tree.
