fact

Novell ZENworks for Servers 2.0

Novell Tiered Electronic Distribution (TED)

symptom

NAL Distributions of simple NAL applications (no snapshot and no files) fails to distribute.

The simple NAL applications are pointing to applications installed to the workstation's local hard drive and not on a netware volume.

NAL Distributions of NAL snapshot applications work.

cause

TED distributions will not be built nor objects created if the application does not have files to gather.  The files must reside on a NetWare server.  The files cannot be gathered from a NT server nor a workstation's local drive.

fix

Simple applications that point to files on a NT server or a workstation's local drive cannot be distributed via TED.  Duplication of simple NAL applications is a DS operation and not a file distribution. Duplication of simple NAL applications is done manually in NWADMN32.EXE (ZENworks 2.0) or ConsoleOne (ZFD 3.0).  An enhancement request has been submitted to development for this functionality to be considered for a future product.

Check Novell AppNotes on Novell's Developer and ZENworks Cool Solutions web pages for information on possibilities of duplicating simple applications to remote sites, multiple containers, or multiple servers.  A few AppNotes that may help:  Easing Access to Applications, ZENDS Design for Large Sites: Implementing a Replicated ZEN Container, A ZENworks-Friendly Location Independence Strategy for NetWare Networks, and How to Update Applications, ZENworks Application Objects, and snAppShots Residing on Multiple Servers.
