fact

Novell BorderManager Enterprise Edition 3.6

Novell BorderManager 3.6 Support Pack 1a (BM36SP1A.EXE)

SOCKS V4 and V5 Gateway Configuration

symptom

Enabling Socks gateway allows BorderManager server to be used for spamming on port 1080

cause

SOCKS places a listener on both the public and private interfaces with IPXIPGW.NLM.  SOCKS gateway should have listener enabled only on the private interface.

fix

Fixed in BM36C02.EXE (or later).  NOTE:  If the server has only one interface and the interface is defined as "BOTH" in NWADMIN > BorderManager Setup, then this fix will not apply.  The server MUST have more that one interface.  The SOCKS gateway will listen on any interface defined as PRIVATE or BOTH.
