goal

ZENworks for Desktops 4 (ZfD 4) product install log files

fact

Novell ZENworks for Desktops 4.0

Novell ZENworks for Desktops 4.0.1

Novell ZENworks for Desktops 4.0 SP1b

fix

The ZfD 4.0/4.01 install outputs results to several log files in the %SystemDrive%\Novell\zfdtemp. Enhanced install logging can be enabled, by creating this registry key before the installation program is executed:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Novell\Zenworks]
"ZWInstal.dll Log"="1"

Explanation of the Backend Server log files are as follows:

ZFDLOG.TXT - Shows the results of the install (Success message)
ZFDDEBUG.LOG - Debug output of the installation wizard
P1DEBUGLOGS.TXT - Debug output for Inventory and Remote Management
ZWEXTSCH.LOG - Brief results of the schema extensions
ZWSCHEMA.LOG - Detailed results of the schema extensions (Shows up if the above debug key has been set)
ZWINSTAL.LOG - Detailed results of native calls during the install (Shows up if the above debug key has been set)
ZENWORKS_FOR_DESKTOPS_SERVER_INSTALLLOG.LOG - File copy log from the zeroG InstallAnywhere program
.PROPERTIES and .BAT files are created and used by the install for configuration information

Explanation of the Middle-Tier Server log files are as follows (in addition to some of the files mentioned above):

ZENWORKS_FOR_DESKTOPS_MIDDLE_TIER_SERVER_INSTALLLOG.LOG - File copy log from the zeroG InstallAnywhere program (shows the files copied)
ZMODXKEY.LOG - Output of changing the registry permissions on the XTier key
ZREGIMP.LOG - Detailed results of the registry keys that were added and registered for a Windows Middle Tier server
ZSTRTSVC.LOG - Detailed output of the IIS Services being stopped and started.
